30 families tapped for CDRRMO community drill on flood preparedness

THE CITY Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will target 20 to 30 families for flood evacuation training for its second River-wide Flood Simulation Exercise (SIMEX).

In an interview with CDRRMO Training Division acting head Lyndon Ancajas at the iSpeak forum, he said that the workshops will involve sharing of learning experiences of CDRRMO and the participants and simulating scenarios that test their skills in flooding disaster preparedness.

Ancajas highlighted the importance of conducting drills on disaster preparedness annually to continue educating communities on disaster resiliency and to bolster awareness.

The SIMEX will be conducted on Sept. 21 at the Lipadas River and involves government agencies, the city government, the Bureau of Fire, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the Coast Guard Station Davao, and others.

The community drill will also include the barangays Bayabas, Marapangi, Lisada, Lubogan, and Sirawan affected by the Lipadas River overflow.

The implementation of SIMEX aims to help evaluate Davao City’s flood response capacity and the community’s preparedness in times of disaster. SIMEX will also identify new strategies and the aspects that need to be improved.

SIMEX will include the releasing of heavy rain advisories with the CDRRMO to be equipped with trained responders, early warning systems, and mechanisms for disaster response.
