Ex-soldier killed, motive still unknown

POLICE are investigating the killing of an ex-soldier inside his sari-sari store at Lakandula Street corner Jerome Extension, Barangay R. Castillo, Agdao District, at 9:42 p.m. on May 17.

The victim was identified as Gerardo Sardan Katigbak, 36, married, and a resident of Mutual Homes Buhangin.

According to the report, Katigbak was with his live-in partner and helper when an unidentified man approached them and shot the victim in the head multiple times at close range.

The gunman was wearing a full-face helmet, gray jacket, and denim pants. He boarded a Raider motorcycle driven by another man and sped away.

A witness revealed another motorcycle with two men who served as the lookout. He heard three gunshots from the gunman.

Duty investigators recovered three fired cartridge cases believed to be from a caliber .45 pistol. These are now under the custody of the City Forensic Unit for ballistics examination.

The police investigation also showed that the victim survived an ambush sometime in July 2022. Moreover, the live-in partner told police about several threats to his life.

His remains were brought to Anghel Funeral Homes.

Meanwhile, Major Catherine Dela Rey, Davao City Police Office spokesperson, told TIMES that they are still determining the motive of the killing. The Bajada Police Station is leading the investigation.
