Rain causes landslide in Malabog

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said a road along Purok 76, Mangal-al, Barangay Malabog, Paquibato District has remained close since it was hit by a landslide Sunday.

Alfredo Baloran, head of the office, said Wednesday that the landslide damaged four houses and rendered the road not passable.

“Ang kalsada is gi-recommend nato for temporary road closure kay delikado man. During the assessment kadtong niaging adlaw nagalihok pa siya, nagahugno siya. DPWH advised nga ipasirado gyud ang maong kalsada. Lisud muagi ang motor kay ang kalsada nihugmak ba, naay portion nga dili gyud maagian, mga 6ft ang gibagsakan,” Baloran said.

HE added that the unabated rain caused the landslide. “Dugay naman gud na siya naay guba na crack na gyud na siya so na-aggravate lang na sa continuous, nga sigeg ulan kadtong niaging semana mao to nahumok iyang foundation.”

Baloran said residents should be vigilant and must prepare for a possible pre-emptive evacuation order in case it is declared.

However, he said, the city government did not announce any order to suspend classes because the advisory from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) did not support the move.

“Wala pata’y gipakanaog, ang nabalitaan nato ang neighboring provinces sa Davao de Oro kay didto man gyud, duol didto ang weather disturbance, ang low pressure area,” Baloran said.

The Pagasa earlier hoisted an advisory about heavy rains as a low pressure area was getting near.
