MILO, Davao City united in keeping Filipinos active and healthy at home

MILO Philippines and the Davao City Sports Office band together in a unified advocacy of keeping Filipinos active and healthy while staying safe indoors with the launch of MILO Home Court Campaign, an online sports initiative aimed at empowering parents to continue their kids’ champion journeys even while at home.

Steadfast in its shared commitment on health and wellness, both MILO and Davao City Sports Office have expressed their solidarity in championing sports, exercise and nutrition through collaborations geared towards sports development.

“We are delighted to receive the support from the Davao City Sports Office in our initiative,” said Lester P. Castillo, Assistant Vice President, Nestlé Philippines – MILO in a Zoom conference Thursday noon.

“The MILO Home Court can be a useful resource for Davaoeños and all Filipinos to transform their homes into a training ground so that kids can discover their love for sports and pursue their aspirations. As we continue our mission in building a nation of champions, creating valuable partnerships will be key in accelerating this pursuit, and we are constantly seeking for collaborations in taking this journey further,” he added.

The MILO Home Court is aligned with the Davao City Government’s “Aktibo Davaoeño”, a virtual activity that aims to keep its citizens active and fit during the pandemic.

“The Davao City Government value sports and exercise as instruments for nation-building. We are delighted to know that MILO is taking a similar step in adapting to the new normal to keep sports and exercise alive. The MILO Home Court complements well with our Aktibo Davaoeño program and we look forward to fortify our partnership to further develop future athletes while they stay safe in their homes,” said Mikey Aportadera, officer-in-charge of the Davao City Sports Development Division Office.

Developed in tandem with its partner organizations, the MILO Home Court offers a wealth of interactive and physical activities available on MILO’s social media pages, making sports and exercise accessible for parents who are looking for alternative ways to engage their kids in active play.

Through the campaign, MILO brings its signature sports clinics to the digital space with the MILO Sports Clinics Online to ensure that kids can continue their dreams of becoming tomorrow’s champions. Parents can engage their kids in a weekly training course that will teach them the basics and fundamentals of different sporting disciplines.

The free online program is available on the MILO YouTube channel where parents can find an extensive library of more than 40 instructional videos for at least nine sports disciplines namely arnis, badminton, basketball, football, gymnastics, karatedo, volleyball, taekwondo, tennis, among many others. Designed specifically for kids aged seven to 12, all online courses are developed and facilitated by MILO’s expert coaches and mentors from its trusted partners such as the Philippine Taekwondo Association and the Association for the Advancement of Karatedo.

MILO Home Court also includes interactive training classes that will help kids further develop their skill sets and gain a better understanding of their strengths. These classes come with a minimal enrollment fee, and provide aspiring athletes the advantage of real-time supervision and expert assessment by the best coaches in and outside of the country. Available sports classes include karate, taekwondo, badminton, gymnastics, multisport, chess and football and parents are advised to enroll their children early as slots are limited.

This initiative also in line with the Philippine Sports Commission’s Online Coaching Certification Program in partnership with MILO, which helps support the livelihood of displaced coaches and trainers.

“By giving our coaches the right tools and resources to upskill, they will be able to advance their capabilities and help more children to be active and be better at their sport,” said Commissioner Charles Maxey of the Philippine Sports Commission.

“We are happy to have MILO as an ally in empowering our trainers and we will continue to collaborate in various endeavors to further uplift sports development in the Philippines,” added Maxey, a Dabawenyo himself.

Additionally, MILO will also offer a live training session through the MILO Team Play Live. The program is a live exclusive physical activity class where kids can interact with renowned fitness mentor Coach Jim Saret and their favorite MILO ambassadors Alyssa Valdez and Jamie Lim on the MILO Facebook page.

The campaign kicked off on MILO’s Facebook page with a 60-second material featuring MILO ambassador and volleyball star Alyssa Valdez. Under the MILO Home Court campaign, a set of energizing and engaging social media activities are laid out to inspire families to create their very own courts as a means for children to have a safe space for sports at home.

“By innovatively using technology as a platform for sports instruction, we are able to continue to nourish ambitions of Filipino kids. The MILO Home Court is our way of inspiring the youth to never give up on their dreams despite the challenges, such as this situation that we are facing now. We encourage parents to support their kids in their champion journey by participating in our online programs that will help mold them into becoming the next generation of champions,” Castillo added.

The MILO Home Court campaign is in support of World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Recommendation on Physical Activity for Health, wherein kids aged five and above should engage in physical activity for an accumulative 60 minutes every day to build their muscle strength, improve motor skills, and promote bone development.
