Scene City | Mr. & Mrs. B is a diner’s dream come true

Lena and Rommel Benedicto – “Mr. & Mrs. B”

In the Northern part of the city, where the newest hotels and eateries are situated, a new restaurant has opened where the cuisine will certainly excite your palate.

If you fell in love with the comforting Filipino cuisine of the Rekado, Golden Brown and Patok sa Manok, then you will feel the same with the offerings of Mr. & Mrs. B (MMB), the newest member of the restaurant family.

While the other restaurants will sate your taste for just-like-mom’s-home-cooked specialties, MMB will take you on a culinary trip across the globe. Each dish is inspired by the Benedictos’ constant food trips abroad. The ones they fell in love with are mimicked and tweaked to become an MMB creation. Perhaps it will be best to try the foods for yourself and let your taste buds tell you where you had it in any of your travels.

On your first visit, Chef Pauline Benedicto-Malilin (yes, the same chef that made sure our Filipino comfort cuisine at Rekado is served perfectly), recommends these dishes…

Forget kinilaw, MMB’s Tuna Carpaccio will put wow on the tuna. The flavor of the thinly sliced fresh tuna is enriched with the dressing of olive oil, lemon, garlic, basil-capers dressing, sweet pickles and arugula. To make it more exciting, chili is added.

Or start with the Bone Marrow Butter for a sinful indulgence. To enjoy it fully, the chef says to follow the ritual of spreading the bone marrow butter on the slice of ciabatta crotini, sprinkle it with Himalayan salt, add the herb salad and squeeze lemon on it.

Follow it up with a bowl of rich, thick Cream of Mushroom Soup or the Cheese and Onion Soup. The warm and tasty liquid serves as the kick-off of an exciting meal ahead.

If MMB Salad is a song, then it is a chartbuster! The greens are grilled then generously showered with eggplant puree, smoke fish aioli, parmesan and cured egg yolk.

For a taste of Italy, try the Shrimp Puttanesca. You’ll love the balance of saltiness and sourness of the the ingredients.

Let’s start with a heavy hitter—all 400 grams of it. The MMB Grilled Pork Chop will look like your favorite T-Bone steak because the thick pork slab is served bone-in. It is braised with black garlic oil and rests on onion gravy.

For something that swims, the smoky flavor of the Grilled Tuna Belly is further enriched with a thick dressing of sesame aioli and eggplant-parmesan puree.

With every bite of the perfectly-cooked Roasted Half Herb-Chicken the rich flavor of the herbs burst in your mouth. The garlic-wine cream sauce makes the dish more delectable.

For a more indulgent meal, have the Sous Vide Duck. This is a heavenly dish. The pink, tender juicy slices of duck breast is achieved by cooking it for hours in the right temperature. It is served with thin slices of orange and pear wedges.

MMB has the ideal complement to your meal—the oh-so-good Grilled Corn that will spark images of Bali in your mind, and the MMB Special Rice, which is prepared with turmeric, dried safflower, kaffir lime, lemongrass, garlic and shallots.

Your table awaits you at Mr. & Mrs. B. It is located behind Patok Sa Manok Restaurant in Lanang.
Invited guests savored the newest offerings on Monday, February 17, as it officially opened its doors to the public on Turesday, February 18, 2020.
