The Land Transportation Office (LTO) XI clocked 4,500 motorists for speeding since October 2018.
“Some of them are now settling their apprehensions,” LTO XI Law Enforcement Division chief Jun Antonio said on Wednesday.Antonio said that 10 of the motorists they flagged down were high-ranking officials and politicians.
“Sorry, but in this kind of operation we do not mind what the positions of these motorists are because in the first place, we do not know who owns the car or who is inside of it. We will flag down whoever overspeeds,” Antonio said.
Antonio explained that motorists will have no excuses for exceeding the speed limit because of the complete information indicated on the speed gun.
The LTO XI imposes a P2,000 penalty fee for violators.
The P9 million they collected from the operations is submitted to the central office.
Antonio said, if they operate one hour a day, they could flag down at least 500 motorists for overspeeding “but because we have other tasks we only operate at least once a month.”
He added that motorists are mostly caught along the stretch of Guihing in Davao del Sur and Nabunturan, Compostela Valley. These are also the areas closely monitored by the LTO XI where agents conduct operations for three hours a day.
