TWENTY former members of the communist terrorist group (CTG) surrendered with their firearms during a ceremony held at Balimba Hills, Sitio JBL, Barangay Sto. Niño, Talaingod, Davao del Norte, on December 7.
Organized by the 56th Infantry Battalion in collaboration with local government units and peace-building organizations, the event marked a significant milestone in the journey toward reconciliation and lasting peace.
Themed “From Rebellion to Reconciliation: A Journey Towards Peace,” the ceremony underscored the former rebels’ commitment to leaving behind a life of violence and embracing reintegration into mainstream society.
Local officials, military leaders, and peace advocates praised the collaborative efforts that made this possible, emphasizing the importance of creating opportunities for these individuals to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their communities.
To support their transition, the government provided immediate assistance, including essential supplies and livelihood support.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office also facilitated profiling to ensure the delivery of tailored services such as counseling, family assistance, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Lt. Col. Ali Sumangil, commanding officer of the 56th Infantry Battalion, assured the military’s unwavering support for the reintegration of the former rebels into peaceful and productive lives.
This significant act of surrender reflects the power of unity, dialogue, and shared responsibility in fostering peace. It serves as a reminder that with collective effort, Talaingod and the nation can move closer to a future free from conflict.
