THE 16-KILOMETER Davao City Coastal Road is nearing completion with only about three kilometers of the surface left unfinished.

According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) XI, of the 15.674 km total project length, 12.034 km are completed; 2.424 km is underway, and the construction of 0.447 km has yet to start.

During the Habi at Kape on Wednesday, DPWH XI spokesperson Dean Ortiz explained, “Yung iba hindi pa nadadanan kasi pending the completion of the Bucana Bridge.”

The Bucana Bridge is a four-lane, six-span extra-dosed bridge spanning 1.34 kilometers, including approach roads traversing from Roxas Avenue to Bago Aplaya.

The project started in November 2023 following the signing of the civil works contract between DPWH and China Road and Bridge Corporation.

Currently, the bridge is 65.63% complete and is expected to finish on Nov. 29, 2025. About 0.766 km span of the bridge is yet to start.  Ortiz said of the total bridges in the coastal road, 12 have been completed while four are ongoing (124 meters).

“What remains to be implemented are, more or less seven ongoing projects right now kasi the coastal road has been divided into several packages,” he stressed.

At present, the project has a remaining funding requirement of ₱2.3 billion.

Since the construction of the coastal road in 2017, DPWH has released ₱28.5 billion, including the ₱3.1 billion dedicated to the Bucana Bridge.

DPWH has requested additional funding for the remaining sections to meet its target to finish the project by 2026.
