ONE HUNDRED and seven contingents will join for the Duaw Davao Pride Parade to support the LGBTQIA+ community of Davao City on June 23.
During the iSpeak Media Forum on June 20, Pride Parade event organizer Harold Quibete said that this year’s pride parade is the first to be sponsored by the city government as the city government is now recognizing members of the LGBTQIA+ community and the LGBT Davao City Coalition.
“So this is a very nice avenue na mahatagan jud og leverage ang atoang LGBTQIA+ community to really not only be recognized but also to be valued by the city government of Davao,” he said.
Quibete clarified that anyone can join the pride parade event even if they are not a member of the LGBTQ. Among the 107 contingents, there are also non-LGBTQ members who will join the event.
“This is one way of showing to everybody that no one is really left behind sa tanan celebration nato sa Davao City. So apil ang atoang LGBTQIA+,” he said.
Quibete added that the number of participants to be expected is around 10,000 to 15,000. They have also partnered Davao City Water District (DCWD) for water stations and coordinated with the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) for the traffic scheme.
The Duaw Davao Pride Parade will start at 3:30 p.m. with the route starting at Roxas Avenue to San Pedro Square. Duaw Davao Pride Parade will then be followed by the Hugyaw Davao: Night of Fun and Colors at 7 p.m. at Rizal Park.
