ONE HUNDRED and one scholars graduated from the TSI and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority XI’s community program on dressmaking, PV system installation, masonry, and bread & pastry production.
AboitizPower subsidiary Therma South, Inc. (TSI) partnered with the TESDA and Sta. Cruz town to provide skills training to the 101 scholars including persons with disabilities. The program also serves additional livelihood opportunities ensuring better income for community members.
In an interview at the municipal multi-purpose building in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur on July 18, TESDA Davao del Sur provincial director Remegias G. Timonio said the graduates will be developed into community-based trainers to be deployed in their respective barangays.
Timonio shared that the training program will not be the end for the scholars as it will become a value chain for other government agencies to exploit.
“Ang skills development mao ang powerful intervention. Powerful tool human intervention para matabangan nato ang atong panginabuhi sa atong kataohan,” Timonio said.
TESDA is targeting 232 barangays in Davao del Sur to expand the skills training programs and empower the communities. He also said that Sta. Cruz recently had its first LGU training center built while the agency provides technical support.
Abe Nisnisan, TSI vice president for operations and maintenance, said they aim to sustain the program to continue benefiting the people. They will also continue to collaborate with the LGUs to help as many people as they can.
“Because after we give something and then if it is sustainable the people can use it over and over again and make it something like they can now stand on their own,” Nisnisan said.
