A 19-YEAR-OLD steel beam worker died and two others were hurt when a column bridge pier collapsed at a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) XI construction site in Malagamot, Panacan on Monday afternoon, June 17.
According to the initial report from the Sasa Police Station, the deceased worker was identified as JP Villanueva Oftana, a resident of Malita, Davao Occidental.
The injured steel beam workers, meanwhile, were Ian Jarol, 25, and Rogelio Roxas, 28.
Accordingly, site foreman Christopher Ebaonsaid said pier 5 of the structure collapsed around 3:15 p.m., bringing the workers down along with it. The cause is still under investigation.
The injured workers are out of danger and recovering at the hospital. Oftana’s remains have been transported to a local funeral parlor.
