Region XI maintains peace, 10ID targets last NPA unit

THE 10TH Infantry Division (10ID) reported continued peace in the Davao Region with no recorded atrocities by communist groups in 2024.

They are now focusing on dismantling the last remaining guerilla front in their area.

Major Mark Anthony Tito, 10ID spokesperson, announced during a press briefing that the division is “fast-tracking” the dismantlement of Weakened Guerilla Front (WGF) 57. This follows significant recent accomplishments against the group.

Dismantling WGF 57

“Our goal is to dismantle the guerilla front 57 by the end of 2024,” Major Tito said. WGF 57, operating in Bukidnon, is the sole remaining front within the 10ID’s area.

Based on their data, the weakened Guerilla Front 57 is now only eight of the previous 13 members. He elaborated on recent successes, a new surrender provided valuable information, three members were captured in a joint operation with Kidapawan City Police on April 4th. Five New People’s Army (NPA) members were neutralized (three captured, one surrendered, and one killed) in an encounter on April 7th in Quezon, Bukidnon.

Tito highlighted the recovery of firearms, explosives, and subversive documents during these operations. Notably, the body of a neutralized NPA member, identified as “Alias Rica,” was transported to Muntinlupa City at the request of her family.

“Alias Rica was a significant figure within WGF 57,” Tito explained. “She served as both logistics and political officer. A former student at UP Diliman, she was originally deployed in the Eastern Visayas before being transferred to Mindanao.”

“We are optimistic about dismantling WGF 57,” Major Tito concluded. “Following the required area clearing validation process by the Eastern Mindanao Command, we hope to declare the entire region free of guerilla fronts.”

The 10ID emphasized their continued efforts to maintain peace in the region, highlighting collaboration with other security sectors at a recent joint regional committee meeting.
