- City grants 3.9M to calamity-hit areas
The City Council passed an ordinance granting P3.9-million financial aid to its neighboring cities and towns in the Davao region hit by calamity last month.
Pushed by Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, chair of the committee on finance, ways and means, and appropriations, during the suspended rules, the councilors granted the aid to 13 localities in the region.
These are Tagum City, Carmen, Sto. Tomas, Asuncion, Braulio E. Dujali, and Kapalong in Davao del Norte; Manay, Boston, Caraga, Baganga, Tarragona, and Cateel in Davao Oriental; and Bansalan in Davao del Sur.
Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental were hit by heavy rains due to tropical depression Amang last month.
Bansalan, on the other hand, is affected by a dry spell.
The financial grant, which is a portion of the 30% Quick Response Fund (QRF) of the Calamity Fund of the City for 2019, was given to alleviate the unfortunate fate suffered by the victims of the calamities.
“This will be handed to the municipalities immediately,” Dayanghirang told reporters. “That is why we made this urgent.”
According to the Councilor, the municipalities were identified based on the recommendation of their respective Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council that coordinated with the City’s Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).
